Chris
was born in 1964 and raised in Stockport, near Manchester, which
is famous for its Mad Hatters, a reputation that has not escaped
him! He started playing the cornet at age 8 5/8 and was soon adopted
into the Brass Band family. This formed the beginning of a so far
full and varied professional career encompassing wind bands, big
bands, dance bands, orchestras, touring shows and even circus bands!
(He didn't like the caravan though.) Chris has now added Caduceus
Brass to this impressive list by becoming a member of the group
in December 2001. His brilliance and versatility have brought a
new dimension to the group. |

Norman,
original member and founder of the group, plays a Bach Bb Trumpet
with the quintet and and can also be seen playing a Bb/A Getzen
Piccolo Trumpet. You may even see him blowing a train whistle, but
he's not allowed to get his hands on anything more percussive! As
well as taking the role of compare during live performances, Norman
deals with all bookings for the quintet. He's a friendly bloke,
so please don't hesitate to give him a call - the whistle only comes
out on pre-planned occasions! Norman learnt to play a brass instrument
at the early age of 7 and has since played in a variety of musical
groups, including brass bands, pit orchestras and chamber groups.
Early musical success for Norman was winning the top school music
prize at 15 years of age. Unfortunately, things have gone downhill
ever since - until Caduceus Brass that is!! |

Chris started playing the trumpet
and cornet at the age of 11 in local brass bands and orchestras
of Norfolk, but switched to the French horn when he joined the RAF
Music services. Chris had always wanted to play the French horn
and his RAF service gave him the opportunity to study the horn under
leading horn players, both in UK and USA. Chris became principle
horn in the RAF Central Band in 1992. Over the years he has been
very privileged to play under some great conductors and in some
great concert venues all around the world. Chris left the RAF in
2003 and is now fortunate enough to be able to continue his love
of playing with many orchestras and bands, and especially as the
most recent member of the Caduceus Brass Quintet. |

Matt is
the second full time professional musician within the ensemble.
He began playing trombone at the tender age of six. Although young
in years and unable to reach much past fifth slide position, his
enthusiasm for the instrument allowed him, (with lots of hard work),to
progress well enough to join his local Salvation Army junior band
at the age of 7. It wasn't too long before Matt was attending Dunstable
Music School as well as playing with the DMS jazz band. Things didn't
stop here though, eventually Matt depped for the then unknown Aylesbury
Music Centre Dance Band and was thus asked to join. In 1989 the
band was the first to win the now coveted title of 'Daily Telegraph
Jazz Band of the year' followed by further success in the BBC Radio
2 National Big Band competition. As a result of listening to his
dad's records and learning new styles of music, Matt was given a
lot of opprotunity at a very young age. This is evident through
his extensive repertoire of both jazz and classical. Matt is now
playing at a professional level, successfully making a living, which
is all he wanted to do from the age of 2 apparently! |

John,
an original member, provides the foundation of the quintet with
his sonorous tuba sound. At live performances, John also takes on
the role of compare - the repartee that he forms with Norman is
an act not to be missed folks! John is also official librarian with
the ensemble, although he still hasn't got round to organising his
own pad yet! |
